CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -Portland Trail Blazers starting point guard Steve Blake could be sidelined up to a month, longer than originally expected, with a right shoulder injury.
Blake separated his shoulder in Wednesday’s loss to Philadelphia. The team originally said he’d be out seven to 10 days, but the prognosis changed to two to four weeks after Blake was examined Saturday in Portland, Ore.
“With a sprained shoulder like that, four weeks is probably the norm,” coach Nate McMillan said before Saturday’s game against Charlotte. “Two (weeks), you’re lucky if a guy is out for that short period of time.”
Blake is averaging 11.6 points and 4.7 assists per game.
Sergio Rodriguez got his second straight start at point guard Saturday, but McMillan said rookie Jerryd Bayless could also start while Blake is out. Bayless had a career-high 23 points in Thursday’s win at New Jersey.
” McMillan said. “If Bayless has another good night, we may look at that. I’m not opposed to putting him there.”
