CLEVELAND (AP) -Cavaliers guard Shannon Brown, who was disappointed when Cleveland decided not to pick up his option for next season, was assigned to Rio Grande Valley of the NBA Developmental League on Friday.
Brown has played in just 12 games – four starts – this season, averaging 7.9 points. The former first-round draft pick (No. 25 overall in 2006) has flashed some potential during his 1 1/2 seasons as a pro.
However, he’s not getting the playing time he expected and can now showcase his talents for the Vipers, an affiliate for the Cavaliers, Houston Rockets and New Orleans Hornets.
Unless the Cavaliers change their mind and pick up Brown’s option, he will become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
