A.I. To Motown
The 2008 NBA Season already has a blockbuster trade. The Detroit Pistons have traded Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Denver Nuggets for All-Star Allen Iverson.
This is a mammoth trade for both teams as the Pistons lose two quality veterans in Billups and McDyess, but gain a legitimate all-around scoring threat in Iverson. Meanwhile, Denver parts with a true scoring threat, but scoops up a player in Billups that not only can score in the clutch, but also lead an offense as well as any point guard in the league.
McDyess also gives the Nuggets a big man down low in the post.
Before the season, oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com established the Pistons as 10/1 favorites to win the 2009 NBA Finals title. Oddsmakers also had the Nuggets as a 50/1 long shot to win this year’s championship.
With Iverson, Detroit’s odds are expected to go up, while Denver’s could stay relatively the same since they lose such a dynamic piece. Check out our NBA Futures Odds Page to keep track of how this trade will affect both team’s title odds.
