Pistons maintain Monroe
DETROIT, MI (TheSpread) – The Detroit Pistons will keep another big body in the post for the upcoming season, signing Greg Monroe to a qualifying offer on Monday.
The restricted free agent agreed to a deal for $5.48 million over one season, citing his excitement to play for new coach Stan Van Gundy this upcoming season.
“I look forward to playing for coach Van Gundy and his staff,” Monroe said in an announcement. “He has a proven track record and I’m excited about working with my teammates to get better and prepare for the season.”
Monroe averaged 15.2 points and 9.3 rebounds last season for the Pistons, his fourth year with the team. He is averaging 14 points and 9 rebounds per game over his career.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Pistons currently have 200/1 odds to win the NBA Finals next season. The Cleveland Cavaliers are favored with 5/2 odds while the San Antonio Spurs have 4/1 odds.
