NBA FREE PICK: Take New York. According to latest NBA trends, Indiana is 4-9 ATS last 13 vs. Eastern Conference, 8-21 ATS vs. Atlantic Division, 1-8 ATS last 9 Sunday games and 2-7 ATS last 9 in Conference semifinals.Knicks are 17-6 ATS last 23 vs. Eastern Conference, 19-7 ATS last 26 overall, 5-1 ATS last 6 vs. Central Division, favorite is 4-1 ATS last 5 in series and 6-2 ATS last 8 in series vs. Pacers.
Indiana (53-34 SU, 46-41 ATS, 42-44-1 OU) is coming off beating Atlanta, 4-2 in their first-round playoff series. New York (58-30 SU, 49-37-2 ATS , 40-46-2 O/U) is coming off defeating Boston, 4-2 in their opening round series.. Both teams have big post players with Roy Hibbert (7-2, 270) going up against Tyson Chandler (7-1, 250). Chandler won't score much he'll defend. The Knicks also could get Amare Stoudemire back in this series from injury, but probably not until Game 3. The Knicks won both games at home in this series by a combined 22, while the Pacers won both home games but only covered one in this series. The Knicks get in trouble when they try too much isolation on offense and they slow the game down. But Carmelo Anthony is a very difficult cover for David West, who's too slow, while Paul George isn't strong enough to defend Anthony as the Knicks play a smaller lineup. That lineup got up by 26 points in the fourth quarter against the Celtics on Friday night before nearly blowing a big lead. The Pacers had a 20+ lead against the Hawks on Friday before also nearly blowing it at the end. So while both teams aren't great closes, we like the Knicks here because they have the better backcourt led by Ray Felton and an underrated Iman Shumpert, who at 6-foot-6, can play both guard positions and is a tremendous defense, He'll play more minutes in this series and will be one of the differences in Game 1.
