Heat fall to Boston
Miami has suffered back-to-back losses to Boston this week to really hurt their playoff seeding. The Heat are 38-40 overall, 20-18 on the road, 42-35-1 against the spread and 39-39 with the over/under total. The two losses this week has Miami sitting ninth in the East right now, ½ a game out of the playoff picture.
The Heat are one of the better defensive teams in the NBA, allowing just 105.7 points per game while holding opponents to 44.2 percent shooting. Offensively, Miami is putting up 105.6 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. Leading scorer Josh Richardson will be out for the rest of the regular season with a hip injury. He puts up 16.6 points per game. Goran Dragic is adding 14.5 points and 4.6 assists per contest.
T’Wolves out of the mix
Minnesota is out of the playoff mix, but they are coming off a 110-108 win at Dallas on Wednesday night. The Timberwolves are 35-43 on the season, 24-14 at home, 37-41 against the spread and 42-36 with the over.
The Timberwolves are putting up 112.7 points per game this season while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor. Defensively, Minnesota is giving up 113.9 points per game while opponents shoot 46.6 percent against them. Injuries have piled up for Minnesota, as Taj Gibson, Robert Covington, Luol Deng, Derrick Rose and Jeff Teague are all out tonight. Karl-Anthony Towns is putting up 24.4 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while Andrew Wiggins adds 17.9 points per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Miami
The Heat are 5-0-1 against the spread in their last six following a failed cover and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven following a loss.
Minnesota
The T’Wolves are just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games.
Prediction:
Miami is coming off losses to Boston, but the Heat have been doing a good job of beating non-playoff teams as of late. That includes wins at New York and Washington, as well as at home against Dallas over recent weeks. The Timberwolves are short-handed and have no reason to really lay it all out on the line tonight. I think Miami knows the urgency it needs to have right now given its on the outside looking in for the playoffs.
NBA Prediction: Miami Heat -3
