Durant done, Thunder’s odds tumble
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (TheSpread) – The worst fears for the Oklahoma City Thunder came true on Friday, as Kevin Durant will miss the remainder of the season due to his foot injury.
It was announced by the team yesterday that Durant will have bone graft surgery on his right foot that will cause him to be out for the next four to six months and end his season. Just a few weeks ago the team was hopeful that Durant would be back relatively soon, but his foot became aggravated after attempting to take part in practice drills and now he will be out for the season.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Thunder moved from 8/1 odds to win the NBA Finals to now sitting in at 33/1. The Cleveland Cavaliers are the current favorite at 2/1 while the Golden State Warriors have 12/5 odds.
Durant has played in just 27 games this season, averaging 25.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season. Oklahoma City is currently 41-31 on the season and in the eighth and final spot in the Western Conference by three games over New Orleans. The Thunder have had a stellar outing from Russell Westbrook in Durant’s absence, but it seems unlikely that Westbrook can carry OKC on his own as the eighth seed in the West.
