Nets looking for direction
Brooklyn is coming off a 112-104 loss at Philly on Thursday and the Nets recently discovered they will be without Kyrie Irving for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury. The Nets are 25-29 on the season, 9-17 on the road, 26-28 against the spread and 27-26-1 with the under.
The Nets are putting up 110.4 points per game on offense this season while shooting 44.3 percent from the field. Defensively, Brooklyn is giving up 111.0 points per game while holding opponents to 44.1 percent shooting. Spencer Dinwiddie is the team leader right now. He averages 21 points and 6.6 assists per game. Caris LeVert is adding 15.6 points per contest.
Hornets heating up
Charlotte is coming off a 103-93 win at Chicago on Thursday. The Hornets have won three straight, all on the road. The Hornets are now 19-36 on the season, 8-17 at home, 27-28 against the spread and 28-27 with the under.
The Hornets are the worst offense in the NBA, averaging just 102.9 points per game while shooting only 43.4 percent as a team. Defensively, Charlotte is giving up 109.9 points per game while opponents shoot 47.5 percent against them. The Hornets are led by Devonte’ Graham, who is averaging 17.8 points and 7.8 assists per game. Terry Rozier is adding 17.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Brooklyn
The Nets have covered the spread in four straight following a loss and in six straight games on 1 day of rest.
Charlotte
The Hornets are just 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 home games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games as a home underdog.
Prediction:
The Nets have won and covered in two of three meetings with the Hornets this season. Despite the injury to Irving, the Nets have actually been pretty competitive as of late and covered in five straight prior to an OT loss at Philly on Thursday. The Hornets have won three straight, but that was against the Pistons, T’Wolves and Bulls. Brooklyn is elevated above those teams. The Nets have grown accustomed to being led by Dinwiddie, as he carried them in part last season. I think he will continue to play well and help lead the Nets to the win and cover tonight.
NBA Prediction: Brooklyn Nets -4
