The NBA has just wrapped up its All-Star Break and now the attention turns to the postseason and the MVP chase. Who will come away with the MVP title for the 2019-20 season?
According to the latest oddsmakers, Giannis Antetokounmpo is the favorite to claim the crown this season, as he is listed with -400 odds. Other short odds to win are LeBron James (+800), Luka Doncic (+800) and James Harden (+1000).
Giannis won the MVP award last year while leading the Bucks to the top record in the league. This season, the Greek Freak is doing the same, as Milwaukee has the top record at the break. Last season, Giannis averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game. This season, Giannis is averaging 30.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per contest.
LeBron is a four-time MVP winner, lasing taking the honor in the 2012-13 season as part of the Miami Heat. LeBron is having a great season while leading the Lakers to the top record in the West. James is averaging 25.0 points, 10.8 assists and 7.8 rebounds per contest this season. He is on track for a career-best average in assists.
Doncic is in his second season with the NBA. He has the Mavericks at 33-22 right now, which is seventh in the West. Doncic averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists in his rookie season. This year, despite battling some ankle issues, Doncic is averaging 28.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game.
Harden won the MVP honor in the 2017-18 season, which was his first and only award. That season, Harden averaged 30.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game. He has increased his scoring each of the last two seasons. This year, Harden is averaging 35.3 points per game while adding 6.5 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. Houston is currently fifth in the West.
