Griffin needs elbow surgery
LOS ANGELES, CA (TheSpread) – The Los Angeles Clippers will need to find a way to win without Blake Griffin for the immediate future, as their forward star needs surgery.
Griffin will have surgery on Monday to remove a staph infection in his right elbow. It is unknown how long Griffin will be out, but he will be re-evaluated after next weekend’s All-Star break. Griffin has had bursitis issues with his elbow in the past, which could have led to an infection while having it drained.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Clippers have 12/1 odds to win the NBA Finals this season. Cleveland is the current favorite with 15/4 odds, while Golden State has 7/2 odds to win it all.
Griffin is averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game this season for the Clippers. Los Angeles is now 33-19 on the season following a 131-108 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. The Clippers are percentage points behind the Spurs for the sixth spot in the West right now and they have a 5.5-game lead over New Orleans for the final spot in the playoffs.
