Rockets struggling to cover
Houston is coming off a 136-122 loss at Denver last night for their second straight loss. The Rockets are just 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games. Houston is now 29-22 overall, 10-14 on the road, 23-27-1 against the spread and 29-22 with the over.
The Rockets are putting up 112.5 points per game on offense this season while shooting just 44.6 percent from the field. Defensively, the Rockets are giving up 111.4 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 47.7 percent from the field. Clint Capela is out tonight while Chris Paul is not expected to play either. Eric Gordon is questionable as well due to a leg injury. James Harden is leading the team with 36.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 8.1 assists per contest.
Jazz run past Hawks
Utah is coming off a 128-112 win at home over Atlanta last night for its fourth win in five games. The Jazz are 30-23 on the season, 16-9 at home, 26-25-2 against the spread and 26-26-1 with the over/under total.
The Jazz are one of the better defensive teams in the NBA, allowing only 105.8 points per contest. Offensively, Utah is putting up 109.0 points per game while shooting 46.1 percent from the field. Donovan Mitchell is leading the team with 22.3 points per game while Rudy Gobert is adding 15.2 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Houston
The Rockets have failed to cover in five straight road games and in five of their last six following a failed cover.
Utah
The Jazz are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games when playing on no rest and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six home games against a team with a losing road record.
Prediction:
Both teams should be running low on energy, but I think that favors Houston. The Rockets have been struggling lately, but were actually playing well when Paul was on the shelf. With him resting tonight, Houston can resort back to Harden taking over games and doing his own thing. That seems to be when the Rockets are at their best. I don’t think Utah can put up enough offense to cover this big spread against Houston.
NBA Prediction: Houston Rockets +7.5
