Hornets on big skid
Charlotte is riding a six-game losing streak right now after being beaten at home by Boston, 109-92 on Tuesday night. The Hornets have also failed to cover in five straight. Charlotte is 12-24 on the season, 5-13 on the road, 17-19 against the spread and 18-18 with the over/under total.
The Hornets are giving up 110.8 points per game this season while opponents shoot 47.7 percent against them. Offensively, Charlotte is putting up just 103.8 points per game while shooting 43.4 percent from the field. Devonte’ Graham is leading the team with 18.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game. Terry Rozier is adding 17.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per contest.
Cavs end streak
Cleveland is coming off a 117-97 loss at Toronto on Tuesday night. That ended a four-game cover streak for the Cavs. Cleveland is now 10-23 on the season, 6-10 at home, 14-18-1 against the spread and 18-15 with the under.
The Cavs are putting up just 104.3 points per game on offense while shooting 44.5 percent from the floor. Defensively, Cleveland is giving up 113.3 points per game while opponents shoot 48.7 percent against them. Collin Sexton is leading the team with 18.0 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while Kevin Love is adding 16.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Charlotte
The Hornets have failed to cover in five straight and they are 6-19-2 against the spread in their last 27 games following a double-digit loss at home.
Cleveland
The Cavaliers are just 5-12 against the spread in their last 17 games following a loss, but 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record.
Prediction:
These two met back on Dec. 18 at home with the Cavs getting a 100-98 win at home as a 3-point favorite. Cleveland has won four of its last six games overall and three straight at home. The Hornets have dropped six straight with four of the six by more than two points. They also have dropped four straight road games. Neither team is terribly explosive on offense, but I think the Cavs will be the better offense tonight at home. Charlotte allows opponents to shoot a high percentage and their offense hits a wall on the road, shooting 42 percent. I expect the Cavs to slowly grind this one out and pull away in the closing minutes at the charity stripe.
NBA Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers -2
