Harvick Wins The Checker Auto Parts 500, Johnson Extends Points Lead

Kevin Harvick swept both races this year at Phoenix with his win Sunday in the Checker Auto Parts 500. It was Harvick's fifth win of the season.

It was an amazing win for Harvick who battled voltage problems much of the day at Phoenix. When the the red flag waved on lap 307 to clean up debris on the racetrack Harvick needed a push start from a tow vehicle just to get his car refired.

After the race restarted on lap 309 Harvick was able to hold off Jimmie Johnson for the win.

Jeff Gordon Wins Bud Pole at Phoenix for The Checker Auto Parts 500

Three days after getting married Jeff Gordon won the Bud Pole for this weekends race at Phoenix. This was his second Bud Pole of the season.

Gordon won the pole with a lap time of 26.773 at 134.464 miles per hour. Kevin Harvick who went out last barely missed knocking off Gordon with a lap of 26.871, Harvick will start second for the Checker Auto Parts 500.

Qualifying at Phoenix was good to a number of Chase for The Nextel Cup drivers. Dale Earhardt Jr. (4th), Kyle Busch (9th) and Matt Kenseth (10th) will all start in the top 10 for Sunday's race.

The race was decided by a green, white checkered finish after Scott Riggs crashed four laps from the finish after running in the second position. had Stewart's Odds to Win listed at +725 for Sunday's race at Texas. When dusk fell on the Atlanta Motor Speedway and the checkered flag waved it was Tony Stewart beneath the smoke and rubber. Stewart won the Bass Pro Shops 500 Sunday, it was Stewarts fourth win of the year and second win in the final ten races which make up the Chase for The Nextel Cup.

It was also Stewart's second trophy of the weekend. He won the IROC Series Championship on Saturday.

Stewart took the lead on lap 314 and held off Jimmie Johnson who finished second and Dale Earnhardt Jr. who finished third for the victory. Rounding out the top five were Matt Kenseth in fourth and Greg Biffle in fifth.

Johnson Wins at Martinsville; Burton Loses Chase Lead

Jimmie Johnson was able to hold off a hard charging Denny Hamlin in the final laps of the Subway 500 on an emotional day for Hendrick Motorsports.

It was the first Victory for Johnson at Martinsville since 2004 when a plane crash took the lives of team owner Rick Hendrick's Son, Ricky, his brother John and John's daughters Kimberly and Jennifer Hendrick as well as championship Hendrick Motorsports engine builder Randy Dorton.

Johnson took the lead from Bobby Labonte on lap 444 and never looked back despite a tough battle with Denny Hamlin in the final five laps of the race. The win was the fifth of the season for Johnson and second of his career at Martinsville.

Online Sports Book Pinnacle Sports had Johnson's Odds to Win listed at +602 for the Subway 500. Bettors who backed Johnson saw a $602 payout for every $100 bet.
