Aaron's 499 Preview

Talladega isn't the greatest place to get off a losing streak.

Not that we're technically on a losing streak; we had Jeff Gordon winning last Saturday night's Phoenix event, which he did, as a +385 favorite. But in an excruciating turn of events, Dale Earnhardt Jr. got caught on in the pits during a late caution, went a lap down, and wound up losing his head-to-head match-up against Greg Biffle, who didn't have nearly the car Junior did, and who trailed the #8 all night. Drat.

What Driver Won First Car of Tomorrow Race? Answer: Kyle Busch

As Jeff Burton considered how to beat Kyle Busch in the closing laps at Bristol Motor Speedway, he couldn't shake the lessons his mother taught him as a child.

''My mother always told me to do onto other people the way you want them to do you,'' Burton remembered. ''That's the only thing I know to do. I've always tried to let the guy I am racing with set the rules. ... Kyle drives hard. He drives really hard. But he's always raced me with respect.''

Our Experts Handicap Hot-lanta

Enough whining, let's get to Atlanta.

The Smokeless Set complained before last weekend's Vegas race, and they complained after. The track was too slick, the tires were too hard, it was too dangerous to race side-by-side. Boo. Hoo.

Enough. Now we're at Atlanta, a time-honored track that's also dangerous as hell because of its speeds, but which everyone likes because it's got tradition. It's not that races don't get any less strung-out here, or that the speeds aren't just as death-defying, or cars won't get mind-numbingly loose to the point where they'll wreck themselves.
