MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) – Denny Hamlin ducked inside Truck Series points leader Austin Dillon and Ron Hornaday Jr. after a restart with 14 laps to go and went on to win at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday.
The victory was Hamlin’s first in the series, and made him the 23rd driver to win a race in Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Trucks.
Hornaday, seeking his fifth Trucks championship, finished second and Dillon finished third to keep his lead in the standings, 11 in front of James Buescher and 15 ahead of Hornaday and Johnny Sauter.
On the restart, Dillon was on the inside with Hornaday outside and Hamlin behind him. When Dillon’s car slid up the track coming out of the second turn, the Sprint Cup driver darted inside, leaving the championship contenders to battle for second place.
