KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Rain Wednesday delayed and cut short NASCAR's first full testing session at Kansas Speedway since the track was repaved.
The drivers were limited to half of the planned 4-hour session.
The testing passed uneventfully after the 2 1/2-hour delay, unlike a tire testing session Aug. 29 in which Dale Earnhardt Jr. hit the wall and sustained a concussion when a tire blew. That, combined with another concussion at Talladega, sidelined Earnhardt for last week at Charlotte and again this week at Kansas.
The 1.5-mile tri-oval, which opened in 2001, was torn up, repaved and reconfigured after the May race. The track now features variable banking of up to 20 degrees.
