BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) – Nelson Piquet Jr. has won the NASCAR Trucks Series race at Michigan International Speedway, stretching fuel to the end to beat Jason White by a comfortable margin.
It’s the first Truck victory for Piquet in 42 career starts. Dakoda Armstrong was third Saturday.
Piquet was coming off a third-place finish at Pocono two weeks ago. He won the pole for that race and started second behind Joey Coulter on Saturday. Coulter finished seventh.
Piquet led the 200-mile, 100-lap race by 15 seconds with two laps remaining. The only question was whether he had enough gas to maintain his lead to the finish line. He ended up winning by about half that margin, but it was still plenty.
