Marcos Ambrose’s victory at Watkins Glen is validation for the new ownership group of Richard Petty Motorsports.
Andrew Murstein is the new owner of RPM and his Medallion Financial Corp. was one of the investors that rescued the organization from ruin last November.
The hope was to turn the NASCAR team into a money-making venture. Not only is RPM turning a profit already, but Ambrose gave RPM its first win since 2009 when he won the road course race on Monday.
Murstein says there’s also pride in helping seven-time NASCAR champion Richard Petty rebuild his organization. Once the pride of NASCAR, the team had fallen on hard times.
Murstein believes RPM is like the Boston Celtics and can be restored to greatness.
