CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Mary Hendrick, mother of Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick, died Monday. She was 88.
Known as ``Miss Mary,'' she was listed as owner of the No. 5 car that Mark Martin drives in NASCAR's elite Sprint Cup Series. She was previously listed as owner of the No. 25 Chevrolet from 2005 through 2007.
Mary Hendrick and her late husband, Joe, were presented in 2004 with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by then North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley. It's the highest honor bestowed on a citizen of the state for dedication and extended length of service to his or her organization.
