NASCAR:
CAR--AMBROSE-SONOMA
Marcos Ambrose was closing in on his first career Sprint Cup victory last June when a late caution changed everything. Ambrose stalled his car while leading, trying to conserve gas, but was unable to keep pace and had to restart seventh. He returns to Sonoma, the site of that gaffe, this weekend. By Noah Trister.

CAR--INDYCAR-CASTRONEVES' COMEBACK
WEST ALLIS, Wis. - As IndyCar's answer to the New York Yankees, Penske Racing isn't used to writing off one of its star driver's championship chances in the middle of the season. That's exactly where they are with Helio Castroneves right now, a sign of just how badly the three-time Indianapolis 500 winner's season started. Castroneves finally seems to be headed in the right direction over the past two weeks, but that's only the first few steps toward digging out of the hole his No. 3 team was in after a rash of crashes and poor performances. CAR--RIDING SHOTGUN
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Ricky Taylor started laughing when he tried to describe what I was about to experience. ``It's harder braking, more G forces. There's walls on either side of the track. There's really nowhere to go,'' the rising star in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series said of what I would experience on a lap around Watkins Glen International in a Daytona Prototype. Thanks a lot, Ricky. Way to calm the nerves! By John Kekis.
