CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Tony Stewart has released Bobby Hutchens as director of competition at Stewart-Haas Racing.
Stewart promoted Matt Borland to vice president of competition on Monday. Borland has been with Stewart-Haas Racing since its inception as technical director. The move comes before Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway.
Hutchens held his job since 2009. He left his longtime management role with Richard Childress Racing to join Stewart’s organization.
Stewart-Haas Racing has struggled lately. Stewart and Ryan Newman are both in the top 10 in the points standings, but neither driver have a win. Stewart has only one top-five finish all season. Newman has one finish better than 14th since Martinsville in early April.
