CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – The technical director of Penske Racing’s NASCAR program is leaving the team at the end of the month.
The team says Tom German has been accepted into the Sloan School of Management at MIT, and will begin classes in June.
German was the focus of driver Kurt Busch’s anger during his mid-race rant at Richmond two weeks ago. Busch alluded to behind the scenes changes at Penske last week, but declined to be more specific.
Penske officials say German expressed interest in the program last fall, and the team supported him during the application process. The team says only 15 percent of applicants are accepted into the program.
