COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - NASCAR owner Joe Gibbs says the NFL lockout disturbs him and that players and owners must resolve the dispute or risk hurting the sport.
Gibbs, who coached the Washington Redskins to three Super Bowl wins, was in Columbia on Tuesday to visit and talk with inmates at Broad River Correctional Facility. He also gave the keynote speech at a luncheon held by Columbia International University.
Gibbs went through NFL labor disputes in 1982 and 1987. His Redskins won the Super Bowl after both seasons. Gibbs last Super Bowl triumph came after the 1991 season.
Gibbs says the impasse between owners and players might last a while and cost the league some preseason games. However, he says neither side will let the dispute disrupt the regular season.
