WELCOME, N.C. (AP) - Richard Childress says it's time for someone to dethrone NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and he's got the teams to wrest away the title. Childress was bursting with confidence Tuesday when he claimed a gut feeling tells him his organization will win the Sprint Cup title this year. Richard Childress Racing was the most improved team last season, when drivers Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton all made the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Harvick even led the points for a bulk of the regular season, and went down to the season finale in the title race with Johnson. He settled for third. But Childress says his four drivers are ready to take the next step in 2011. |
