The Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship is still competitive with two races remaining this season.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series continues it season Sunday with the 2009 Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 from Phoenix International Raceway.

Points leader Jimmie Johnson is the favorite heading into Sunday’s race.

Johnson is a 4/1 favorite to win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. Other short odds to win are Mark Martin (5/1), Denny Hamlin (8/1), Tony Stewart (8/1), and Jeff Gordon (10/1).
After finishing 38th last week in the Dickies 500, Johnson now only leads Martin by 73 points in the standings with two races to go. Johnson has dominated at this track, winning three of the last five events here. Johnson has 10 top-10 finishes in 12 career races at this track.

Martin has two career wins in Phoenix, including the race at this track earlier this year. Martin has 14 top 10’s in 25 career starts in Phoenix. Martin has five wins in 2009 and has finished in the top eight in two of his last three races.

Hamlin sits eighth in the standings, 322 points behind Johnson. Hamlin has eight starts in Phoenix and has five top-six finishes. Hamlin has finished third on three occasions at this track. Hamlin has finished in the top two in two of his last three races.

Stewart is fifth in the standings, 178 points behind Johnson. Stewart won his first career start in Phoenix in 1999, but hasn’t won here since. Stewart has nine top-10 finishes in 15 starts at this track and has finished in the top 10 in five of his last seven Sprint Cup races.

Gordon is third in the standings, 112 points behind his teammate, Jimmie Johnson. Gordon has one win at this track and has 15 career top-10’s in Phoenix. Gordon has finished outside the top 10 in back-to-back races in the Sprint Cup series.
