Johnson leads the pack

Qualifying is complete for Sunday’s AAA 400 and Jimmie Johnson will start up front after taking the pole on Friday.

With his lead position, Johnson is the pre-race favorite to win the event.

Johnson is a 3/1 favorite to win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sports book SBGGLOBAL. Other short odds to win are Tony Stewart (6/1), Mark Martin (6/1), Greg Biffle (7/1), Jeff Gordon (8/1), and Carl Edwards (8/1).

Johnson is a two-time winner of this event, with his last win coming in 2005. Johnson sits in second in the Sprint Cup standings, 35 points behind Martin. Johnson is coming off a fourth-place finish last weekend, which was just his second top 10 appearance in his last seven races.

Stewart won this even in 2000, and is sixth in the standings, 74 points behind Martin. Stewart has finished outside the top 10 in his last five races. Stewart will start 22nd in Sunday’s race.

Martin leads the Sprint Cup standings and won this event three years in a row from 1997-99. Martin is coming off a win last week in the Sylvania 300. Martin has finished inside the top five in his last four races. Martin qualified 14th for Sunday’s race.

Biffle is the defending race champion and has finished in the top five just once in his last five races. Biffle will begin fourth for the race.

Gordon won this event in 1995 and 1996. Gordon is 10th in the standings and has finished outside the top five in four of his last six races. Gordon qualified seventh on Friday.

Edwards was the 2007 winner of this race, but has finished outside the top 10 in his last four races. Edwards will begin 30th.

The AAA 400 will take place Sunday, Sept. 27 from Dover International Speedway at 1PM ET. For complete odds and track information on this year’s event, see below.
