AdvoCare 500 Predictions
HAMPTON, GA (The Spread) - Following Ricky Stenhouse Jr.'s strong showing in qualifying on Friday, let's hand out our predictions for the 2013 AdvoCare 500.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Jimmie Johnson is the current favorite to win tonight's race at 9/2 odds, while Matt Kenseth is 6/1 and Kyle Busch is 7/1. Kasey Kahne is also 8/1, while Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin are all 10/1.
Here's our predictions for the AdvoCare 500, which will take place tonight at 7:46PM ET from Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Yes, Johnson is the favorite. He's also 18 points better than the rest of the field in terms of Sprint Cup points and he has four wins and nine top-5 finishes this season. He's won three times at Atlanta Motor Speedway and his average finish here is 11.1, making Johnson not only the favorite but a smart play in tonight's race. His driver rating at Atlanta is currently 108.3, which is the best of any driver. Even at 9/2 odds he represents value.
Among the top 12 driver ratings at Atlanta, Johnson is first and Gordon is second with a 104.8 mark. He currently ranks 13th this season in Sprint Cup points with five top-5 finishes in 24 starts and 10 top-10 finishes. While he doesn't have a win on the year yet, Gordon might be due after finishing second at Pocono earlier this month and seventh at Bristol last week. He's knocking on the door of his first win and maybe it'll come tonight at a track he favors. He leads all active drivers in laps led at Atlanta with 1,280.
Live Long Shot:
Biffle has a respectable 92.6 driver rating at Atlanta, which ranks him 10th among active drivers. In 18 Sprint Cup Series starts at Atlanta, Biffle has earned three top-5 finishes and nine top-10 finishes. He has an average starting position of 12.5 and finishing position of 16 here. He's run well of late, finishing 9th at both Bristol and Michigan the past two weeks, respectively.
