The Sprint Cup Series has three races left prior to the Chase for the Championship. Brad Keselowski is the defending champ. Last season, Keselwoski took the lead from Martin Truex just after a restart with 80 laps remaining. He then held off Truex at the finish by 0.95 seconds for his third win of that season and the fourth of his Sprint Cup career.
The last seven Bristol races have had a margin of victory under one second. Danica Patrick will make her Sprint Cup debut at BMS this week and her fourth start on the 2012 calendar. Earlier this year, Patrick placed 19th on the Nationwide Series at Bristol
He does have history on his side when it comes to Bristol Motor Speedway. The #2 is a car that you expect to see at the front when you come to Bristol. That style fits well at Bristol where Keselowski has won the last two races held here. If he can avoid the inevitable paybacks his driving style and possibly his mouth off the track are sure to attract, there’s no reason the Blue Deuce
Bristol is a great track for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Since 2004 his average finish (8.5) is the best in the series. In 2004 Dale Jr. won the night race. With Bristol going back to old school racing, look for Dale Jr. to be one of the drivers to beat. He’s a driver who never really took to the progressively banked surface. In the last 11 races on the old surface Earnhardt Jr. had a win, 8 top tens and an average finish of 7.1. The grinding down won’t throw him for a loop, look for it to help him.
Live Longshot
Before Kyle Busch started dominating Bristol Kurt Busch was the king here. He’s a five-time Bristol winner but his most recent win was back in 2006. In the last four races he’s finished 7th, 9th, 3rd and 7th. In the spring 2010 race he led 278 laps. He should’ve won but in a late restart he was in the slow lane and Jimmie Johnson got the lucky one.
