Earnhardt Jr. on Daytona pole
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (TheSpread) – Qualifying for the Coke Zero 400 was rained out on Saturday so Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start on the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR race.
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, Dale Jr. is now a 4/1 favorite to win this race. Other short odds to win are Jimmie Johnson (7/1), Jeff Gordon (9/1) and Kevin Harvick (9/1). The Coke Zero 400 takes place on Sunday, July 5 from Daytona International Speedway at 8:04PM ET.
Earnhardt Jr. is fifth in the current point standings, 71 points out of first place. He has one win and eight top 5s on the year. Junior is a three-time winner at Daytona and he has an average finish of 13.1 at the track to go with a driver rating of 91.9, which ranks second amongst the field.
Johnson is fourth in the standings, 70 points out of first place. Johnson has a series-best four wins in 2015 to go with nine top 5s. Johnson is a three-time winner at Daytona with an average finish of 17.5 at the track. His driver rating there is 87.9. Johnson will start 12th on Sunday.
Gordon is 11th in the standings, 154 points out of first. He has no wins with two top 5s this year. Gordon has six wins in his Daytona career to go along with an average finish of 16.6 and a driver rating of 88.0. Gordon will start from the 23rd position.
Harvick is starting in 34th position, but he is the NASCAR points leader by 53 on the field. Harvick has two wins this year to go with 11 top 5s. He is a two-time winner at Daytona with an average finish of 16.2 and a driver rating of 81.6.
