Johnson to start up front

SPARTA, KY (TheSpread) – Jimmie Johnson improved his chances to win the Quaker State 400 on Friday, as he won the pole for Saturday night’s race.

By taking the pole, Johnson has increased his odds to win to 9/2. Other short odds to win are Kyle Busch (6/1) and Denny Hamlin (7/1).

Johnson is fourth in the current points standings, 25 points behind Matt Kenseth for first. Johnson has two wins and a series-high nine top 5’s this year. Johnson took third in last year’s race.

Kyle Busch is 12th in the point standings. He is 137 points out of first. Busch has one win and five top 5’s this year. Busch was the winner of this race in its first year. Busch qualified second for this race.

Hamlin took third in qualifying. He is currently eighth in the point standings, 73 points outside of first place. Hamlin has two wins and seven top 5’s on the year. He placed 11th in this race last year.
