CONCORD, NC (TheSpread) – Jimmie Johnson got a much-needed win on Sunday, as he captured the Coca-Cola 600 championship for his first victory of the season.

Kevin Harvick seemed to have one of the best cars on the day, but the race came down to Johnson passing Matt Kenseth with just under 10 laps remaining and cruising to the win. Harvick caught Kenseth for second, but couldn’t catch Johnson.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Johnson had 6/1 odds to win this race, which means a wager of $100 on him to win will pay out an additional $600.

The win pushes Johnson to sixth in the standings, 44 points behind Jeff Gordon for first. Gordon held on to his points lead by finishing seventh on Sunday. Kurt Busch, who was attempting to complete this race along with the Indianapolis 500 earlier, finished 40th after blowing out an engine in the second half of the race.
