KANSAS CITY, KS (TheSpread) – Jeff Gordon made a statement that he is a championship contender on Saturday, as he won the 5-hour ENERGY 400.

Kevin Harvick seemed to have the best car and led a high 119 laps, but the race came down to pit timing, and Gordon got the right pit at the right time, which put him ahead of Harvick for the final nine laps and got him the win.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Gordon had 8/1 odds to win this race, which means a wager of $100 on Gordon to win will pay out an additional $800.

The win keeps Gordon in the Sprint Cup points lead, as he is now 15 points ahead of Matt Kenseth for the top spot. Kenseth came in 10th on Saturday. Harvick bumped up to 15th in the point standings, 92 points out of first, with his finish.
