UAW Dodge 400 Picks

We may be only 3 weeks into the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season but there is already a very definitive pattern emerging. To find out what that is one need not look any further than the garage area and the motor coach lot. Among drivers, crews and team owners there are a lot of rumblings about what the new look Toyota’s have under the hood. The cars themselves show it, the results show it and this week in Las Vegas for the UAW Dodge 400, the odds most certainly show it.

We have personally taken notice of what seems to be a somewhat unfair advantage the Car of Tomorrow Toyota Camry’s have in the horsepower department over the other car manufacturers in the Sprint Cup Series. Front and center in this controversy are the cars from Joe Gibbs racing. Case in point is the blistering pole run and practice speeds of one Las Vegas native named Kyle Busch.

Besides winning the pole on Friday, Busch’s speed in the first practice session almost topped the 180mph mark. The oddsmakers at online sports book Bodog have certainly taken notice of the Gibb’s Racing horsepower by making Kyle Busch a 9/2 favorite to win the UAW Dodge 400 this Sunday. Busch started the week at 10/1 according to Bodog oddsmakers.

Controversy aside though, there is still one tough hombre out there by the name of Jimmie Johnson. Johnson started the week where Kyle Busch is now at 9/2 odds to win the UAW Dodge 400. But, due to un-Jimmie Johnson like qualifying performance of 33rd, Johnson now finds himself at 5/1 according to Bodog oddsmakers. Why is this important to you? Lest you forget that Johnson has won the last 3, yes I said 3 Cup Series races at Las Vegas. That includes races on the new AND old LVMS track configurations which is quite a feat indeed.

This weekend has been treacherous though in Las Vegas. Saturday’s Nationwide race was plagued with crashes as was qualifying for both series’ and practice for both series. No less than 6 drivers crashed in either practice or qualifying including the mighty Kyle Busch. For some reason numerous drivers are having considerable difficulty navigating turn two at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We predict another caution filled event Sunday and it’s going to take a lot more luck than handicapping to cash a ticket this weekend.

Be that as it may, these guys are professionals and so are we so as such our money will be on Kyle Busch this weekend at 9/2 and Jimmie Johnson at 5/1.

Here are the closing odds for the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup UAW Dodge 400 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas Nevada according to Bodog oddsmakers.
