In the Duels, two races are held that takes all those that competed in qualifying and splits them in half. The first race will determine the race order in the left side of the starting grid while the second race determines the starting order on the right side. No matter the outcome of the races, Mark Martin will start first and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start second. Race one will determine who starts third, fifth, etc. while the second race determines who starts fourth, sixth, etc.

In the opening race, Kyle Busch has been favored to win.

Busch has odds of 6/1 to win according to oddsmakers at the online sports book Sportsbook.com. Other short odds to win are Martin (8/1), Carl Edwards (8/1), Jeff Gordon (8/1), and Jimmie Johnson (8/1).

Busch won his duel race last year and he does hold a victory at Daytona in 2008. In 10 career races, Busch has finished in the top five in four of the races.

Martin has never won the Daytona 500. In fact, Martin has never won at Daytona, including the duels. In 49 career starts at this track he has only finished in the top five nine times.

Edwards has not won a duel race and in 10 career races at Daytona, he has no victories and three top-five finishes.

Gordon won his duel race last year and has five duel victories. Gordon has six career wins at Daytona and in 34 races at this track, he has finished in the top 10 in 17 of those races.

Johnson has won the last four Sprint Cup championships. In 16 career races at Dayton, Johnson has one win and nine top-10 finishes. He has never won a duel race.
The Gatorade Duels will take place Thursday, Feb. 11 from Daytona International Speedway at 2PM  ET. For complete odds and track information on this year’s event, see below.
