 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -The Atlanta Braves acquired reliever Will Ohman and infielder Omar Infante from the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday for pitcher Jose Ascanio.
A left-handed specialist, Ohman went 2-4 with a 4.95 ERA and one save this season for Chicago. He made 56 appearances out of the bullpen, throwing 36 1-3 innings.
The Braves figure he can be more consistent now that he's out of Chicago. In five major league seasons, all with the Cubs, the 30-year-old Ohman has a 2.32 ERA on the road and a 6.63 mark at Wrigley Field. He is 6-8 with a 4.33 ERA overall in 220 career relief appearances.
A versatile utility man who played six positions this year, Infante was traded for the second time in less than a month. The Cubs acquired him from Detroit on Nov. 12 for outfielder Jacque Jones and cash.
Infante, who turns 26 in January, hit .271 with two homers and 17 RBIs in 66 games with the Tigers this year. He gives the Braves depth in the infield following their trade of shortstop Edgar Renteria to Detroit.
Infante spent parts of the past six seasons with the Tigers, helping them reach the 2006 World Series. He is a .253 career hitter with 32 homers and 154 RBIs in 494 games.
He saw regular playing time in 2004 with Detroit, his first full season. That year, Infante hit 16 homers and nine triples while playing in 142 games.
To make room on its 40-man roster, Atlanta designated speedy outfielder Willie Harris for assignment. Harris batted .270 with two homers, 32 RBIs and a .349 on-base percentage this season. He stole 17 bases in 28 attempts and scored 56 runs. He also had 20 doubles and eight triples.
The 22-year-old Ascanio was 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA in 13 relief appearances for Atlanta this season, his first trip to the big leagues.
The hard-throwing right-hander spent most of the year at Double-A Mississippi, going 2-2 with a 2.54 ERA and 10 saves in 44 games, including one start. He struck out a career-high 71 and walked 18 with Mississippi.
