DENVER (AP) -The Colorado Rockies agreed to a one-year deal with free agent reliever Matt Herges worth about $2.5 million.
His contract includes a club option for 2009.
The 37-year-old Herges started the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs, but became a key contributor in a second-half surge that carried the Rockies to their first NL pennant. He was 5-1 with a 2.96 ERA in 35 relief appearances for Colorado.
He held left-handed hitters to a .216 batting average and right-handers to a .184 mark.
