BOSTON (AP) – The Red Sox have finalized their five-year contract with third baseman Pablo Sandoval, the first of two big signings aimed at boosting Boston’s offense after a last-place finish in the AL East.
Sandoval was to be introduced at a Fenway Park news conference Tuesday. The Red Sox also agreed to a deal with Hanley Ramirez, a baseball official with knowledge of that agreement said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because Ramirez hadn’t yet passed a physical.
Sandoval helped San Francisco win its third World Series title in five years. Boston’s deal with Kung Fu Panda includes a team option for 2020.
To clear a roster spot, the Red Sox designated first baseman-catcher Ryan Lavarnway for assignment.
