WASHINGTON (AP) -Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman had a follow-up operation Tuesday to remove some blood that built up near where he had a broken piece of bone removed from his left wrist last week.
Zimmerman had the original surgery Nov. 7, when the team said he was expected to fully recover in four to six weeks. The Nationals said Tuesday that recovery time shouldn’t change.
The injury was discovered when Zimmerman felt his hand hurting after swinging a bat this month. He said the hand had bothered him off and on while playing.
Zimmerman hit .266 with 24 homers and 91 RBIs in 2007, his second full season in the majors. He finished second in voting for NL Rookie of the Year in 2006.
