Offerman was playing for the Long Island Ducks in an effort to return to the majors when he was hit by a pitch. He charged the mound and struck two Bridgeport Bluefish players with his bat.
Bluefish catcher John Nathans suffered a head injury that ended his baseball career. He sued Offerman and the Ducks for $4.8 million in Bridgeport federal court. The trial is scheduled for January.
Nathans' lawyer says Offerman hasn't shown up for any court proceedings, but the trial will go on with or without him.
Offerman was an All-Star with the Dodgers in 1995 and Red Sox in 1999.
