PITTSBURGH (AP) -Perry Hill, a major league coach for 14 seasons, was hired Friday as the Pittsburgh Pirates’ first-base coach.
Hill succeeds Lou Frazier, who was not brought back after spending one season on manager John Russell’s staff.
The 56-year-old Hill was most recently with the Florida Marlins as their first-base and infield coach from 2002-06. He also was a coach with Texas (1992-95), Detroit (1997-99) and Montreal (2000-01).
Hill will be one of two new coaches on Russell’s staff in 2009. Joe Kerrigan was recently hired to succeed Jeff Andrews as the pitching coach.
