DETROIT (AP) Thursday’s game between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians has been in a rain delay for about four hours, and if it’s postponed, the teams could have to squeeze in a makeup game next week if it needs to be played because of postseason implications.
The Tigers and Indians played a rain-shortened game Wednesday night, which Detroit won 6-3 in five innings, but the scheduled series finale Thursday hadn’t started by 5 p.m.
Cleveland has clinched the AL Central. The Tigers are one game behind Baltimore for the American League’s second wild card.
Detroit begins a three-game series at Atlanta on Friday night, and Cleveland starts a three-game set at Kansas City. If they can’t play Thursday, the Tigers and Indians would need to play a makeup game if it could affect who makes the postseason or how teams are seeded.
Monday is the only scheduled day off before Tuesday’s AL wild-card game.
