NEW YORK (AP) – Mets third baseman David Wright has left the game against the Milwaukee Brewers after being hit in the head with a pitch during the third inning on Thursday night.
Wright tried turning out of the way of Johnny Hellweg’s 1-2 offering but the ball hit him in the helmet as he was ducking. Wright went down to the ground before rising to kneel on his hands and knees for a moment.
A Mets trainer sprinted out of the dugout and briefly checked Wright before the All-Star stood up. He walked off the field without assistance, flipping his batting helmet in his hand.
The next batter, Lucas Duda, was hit by a pitch from Hellweg in the back of his leg.
