DENVER (AP) -Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday was scratched Saturday with a minor back injury.
Holliday was injured during Colorado’s 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.
“He tweaked his back yesterday during the game,” manager Clint Hurdle said. “What I heard was making a play in the outfield. I put the lineup up, by the time he got here today he was not comfortable.”
Holliday is third in the National League with a .323 batting average. He is tied for the team lead with 25 homers, and has 84 RBIs and 27 stolen bases.
Hurdle said Holliday, the runner-up to Jimmy Rollins in the 2007 NL MVP voting, probably won’t play until Tuesday, when the Rockies start a three-game series in San Francisco.
“We’ll probably have to give him today and tomorrow, the off day Monday, and re-evaluate him,” Hurdle said before Colorado’s game against Arizona.
