BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -The Buffalo Bisons are expected to announce Monday that the New York Mets will be their new parent club next season.
Neither Bisons spokesman Brad Brisbing nor Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz would confirm the affiliation Friday, but Sen. Charles Schumer praised it in comments to The Buffalo News. The Mets are leaving New Orleans to go Buffalo.
“This is great news for Buffalo sports fans. The Mets and Bisons are a natural marriage, and one that I believe will last a very long time,” Schumer said. “I encouraged the Mets to affiliate in New York state and I’m glad they did.”
A press conference at Dunn Tire Park is scheduled for Monday.
The Bisons have been a Cleveland affiliate since 1995. The Indians are leaving for Columbus, Ohio, and a $55 million downtown ballpark.
