ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -The AL West champion Los Angeles Angels are getting healthy, just in time to tune up for the playoffs.
Manager Mike Scioscia said Friday that outfielders Vladimir Guerrero (right knee irritation) and Juan Rivera (strained right hip flexor) should play this weekend, though neither was in the lineup Friday night against Texas.
Infielder Chone Figgins (right elbow) rejoined the team in Texas and infielder Howie Kendrick (strained left hamstring) ran at almost full speed.
Guerrero has been out since leaving a game on Sept. 12. He has been taking medication for the knee and the Angels wanted to allow the medicine to work before clearing him to step up his workouts.
“It’s calmed down after a couple of days,” Scioscia said. “He’s been swinging a bat. There’s plenty of baseball left before the playoffs start to be where he needs to be and help us win games.”
Rivera has been sidelined since leaving a game on Sept. 13.
Guerrero and Rivera ran in the outfield on Friday, and Scioscia said they could play Saturday or Sunday.
n level before they get back out there,” Scioscia said.
Figgins, hit by a pitch Sept. 8, had an MRI and CT scan on his right elbow Thursday in Anaheim, Calif.
“It’s a relief for us that he’s day-to-day. We might see him in this series, depending on how he progresses,” Scioscia said.
Scioscia said Kendrick “felt very good” and could play by the middle of next week.
The Angels clinched the AL West title on Sept. 10 and are still the only major league team to secure a playoff spot. They have eight games left after Friday night.
