MIAMI (AP) -All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez was out of the Florida Marlins’ lineup on Thursday.
After homering twice, Ramirez left Wednesday night’s game with a strained left shoulder. He said he injured the shoulder diving for a ball in the third inning.
Center fielder Cameron Maybin took Ramirez’s place batting leadoff and Alfredo Amezaga moved to shortstop for the Marlins, who were looking to sweep the Houston Astros.
“That’s a big bat out of the lineup, of course,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “But we’ve got Amezaga playing shortstop and he’s been swinging the bat. He plays a little different game than Hanley does.”
Gonzalez said Ramirez, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder in October, would undergo treatment Thursday and was not expected to be out of the lineup for long.
“We’ve just got to make sure,” Gonzalez said.
