KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -Jose Guillen, who has a career-high 13-game hitting streak, was pulled from the Kansas City Royals lineup just before a 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.
“I just made a late managerial decision not to play him,” manager Trey Hillman said. “The rest of it will stay in house for me at least. I just decided it was best not to play him.”
Guillen, who leads the Royals with 20 home runs and 93 RBIs, has been involved in several controversies since the club signed him to a $36 million, three-year contract in December, making him the highest paid player in club history.
Guillen had to be restrained from by teammates and coaches from going after a heckling fan at Kauffman Stadium last month. He called his teammates “babies” during a 12-game losing streak in May, had a profanity-laced outburst in June saying he could “care less about the (bleeping) fans” that were booing him in Kansas City, and had to be separated in a July 5 clubhouse confrontation with pitching coach Bob McClure in Tampa Bay.

Guillen was not available after the game.
“It is my understanding he was here for the game, but he’s not here now,” a Royals spokesman said after the game.
