NEW YORK (AP) – Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton posted online side-by-side graphic photos of his face, showing healing in the five days since he was struck by a pitch.
Stanton had tests in Miami on Tuesday to determine whether he can play again this season. He posted the pictures on the photo-sharing site Instagram earlier in the day.
The first shot was taken shortly after he was hit Thursday by an 88 mph pitch from Milwaukee’s Mike Fiers, and it shows him with two black eyes, swelling, several cuts and stitches in his lip. Stanton sustained facial fractures and dental damage.
The second photo shows some swelling on the left side, two black eyes and the stitches. But he looks considerably improved.
Manager Mike Redmond said before the Marlins played the Mets that Stanton is feeling much better.
