ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Texas Rangers right-hander Brandon McCarthy left his start against the Detroit Tigers on Monday in the first inning with an injured middle finger on his pitching hand.
McCarthy got the first two outs, then began shaking his hand after delivering a pitch to Magglio Ordonez.
Rangers manager Ron Washington and team trainers ran the mound to check on McCarthy, who could not continue because of an apparent blister.
Luis Mendoza came on to replace McCarthy, who has been able to make only five starts for the Rangers this season because of right forearm inflammation.
