DETROIT (AP) -Right-hander Brandon McCarthy was activated by the Texas Rangers to start the second game of Tuesday's day-night doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers.
McCarthy hadn't pitched since Aug. 10 because of a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade. He also missed 21 days in June and July with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand.
McCarthy is 5-8 this season with a 4.79 ERA.
